Biography: Sue Malcolm BSc. SRD. MMRS
Nutritionist,
State Registered Dietitian and MRS professional
accredited Qualitative Researcher

Health Nutrition and Research UK Ltd is based in Yorkshire
and run by Sue Malcolm

I qualified as a dietitian in Edinburgh in 1984 and worked in the retail industry for 23 years before setting up my consultancy and research business to provide health and research expertise to food and health related businesses of all sizes. Those who know me will say that I am passionate about health and about enabling the improved healthiness of others through my contributory advice and actions; also that I am very dedicated in all I do.

I practice what I preach when it comes to a balanced and varied healthy diet but I also believe very much in consumer choice and great taste. Having trained as a dietitian and also worked in a commercial and very competitive environment, I am used to listening to the needs of others, providing targeted advice and exploiting opportunities.

I was one of the first retail nutritionists, initially working for Safeway. I gained several years marketing experience, developing and launching product ranges, new concepts and brands before  moving back into my specialist area of health and nutrition, where I managed this function as head of nutrition in ASDA for over 15 years.  Now I run a health and research consultancy business providing an industry nutrition advice service, training and project management. In addition to nutrition/ health consultancy I offer companies qualitative research backed up with the unique benefit of sound & balanced nutrition knowledge to ensure true understanding of the issues and the best possible solutions.

Some of my key areas of expertise include development of health strategies & nutrition policies also advising product content & formulation (taking on board key trends, opportunities and Government initiatives). Back in 1999, I saw that the salt content of foods was to become a consumer issue/ opportunity and I lead the way in reviewing 3000 varied products in a year to determine reductions that would support health but not compromise product quality.

My strengths also encompass the development of on-pack labelling schemes considering optimum health and nutrition claims, employee nutrition training, consumer health communication and health related qualitative research.  I conducted industry research on consumer health communication and implemented the required improvements, the following year the company I was working for was rated the top UK supermarket for this aspect in an independent national supermarket health survey.
